It is important to take good care of your carpet which must provide for
a long time the comfort and the stability that you seek during your practice.
LOAN CARPETS
If you use the carpet loaned by the studio or your teacher, two
solutions:
1) Bring your towel to place it on the carpet
2) Use the cleaning spray sometimes available to you
Tip: For a 1st class, plan a towel in case!
YOUR PERSONAL CARPET
Some mats pass without problems to the washing machine. You just have to
choose a washing program and a soft laundry, why not wash nuts!
And to dry your carpet, never use the dryer, but simply lay it flat, if
possible in a ventilated area, as it will dry faster and easier.
Attention: take it in advance because the drying can take several days
depending on the thickness of your carpet.
You can also make a homemade cleaning spray. You just need an empty
spray bottle as a container. For the contents: a little water and purifying
essential oils (tea tree, lemon, for example) will allow you to clean up your
carpet. You can then wipe with a cloth and let it dry a bit longer.
When to replace your carpet?
When you start having small holes in it or you feel less isolated from
the floor, your carpet is losing its thickness, then it means that it has
already lived well.
Each carpet is different, and each person uses it in his own way, with
his own frequency, and carries it more or less. So it's really hard to give a
basic time after which you have to change the carpet.
Basically, if you practice twice a week, I would say that you can keep
your carpet for 3 years. It's an average, it's up to you to see if your carpet
is still dashing or if it already needs to retire!
